Proudly standing on the prominent main street in Richmond, this Georgian treasure has been part of Richmond’s heritage since 1840. Bellevue House is a two-storey Georgian sandstone home, located amongst other historic residences and buildings on the south-west corner of the Bridge Street and Blair Street junction.

Upon entering Bellevue House, one steps back in time. This grand property has been given a new lease of life, having been completely and painstakingly restored and saved from ruin. The gardens and outbuildings were neglected but over the years all has been transformed. Sandstone pillar gates, formal style gardens, winding paths that allow the garden to be explored. An eclectic blend of old and new plantings creates a garden that can’t be missed on visit to Richmond.

Built 180 years ago with convict labour and handmade bricks, (with the authentic thumb print), the old outbuildings have also been lovingly restored. The former servants’ quarters now showcase local talent in a gallery. The original prison cells remain, once housing local drunk and ‘disorderlies’ or even ‘well behaved convicts for labour on the property’ as this property once housed the Police Magistrate.
