The public exhibition for the 2023 Tasmanian Architecture Awards in Hobart is approaching. Please note that there has been a date and location change for the Hobart launch:

Location: BRICKWORKS DESIGN CENTRE, 7-9 Franklin Wharf, Hobart
Date: THURSDAY 15th JUNE
Time: 5.30 - 7.00 pm

The projects will be on display until Tuesday, 4 July. So drop in and see this year’s entries and cast your vote in the 2023 People's Choice to be in the draw for amazing prizes. Register via the link in the bio.

It's National Volunteer Week. So we'd like to give a massive shout out to the incredible army of volunteers who help make Open House Hobart such a success.

There have been 100s of volunteers over the 10 years that the OH Hobart (and OH Launceston) program has been running. They are the heart and soul of the event every year, and we couldn’t run Open House without them.

30-YEAR GREATER HOBART PLAN | MEMBERSHIP BRIEFING SESSION

Join us and the director of Hobart City Deal | Department of State Growth, Rod Malcomson, for a membership briefing session about the Greater Hobart Act 2019, which was created by the Greater Hobart Committee and is made up of Tasmanian Government Ministers covering four portfolios and the Mayors of Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough councils. The objective of the Committee is to work collaboratively on strategic land use and infrastructure planning to help guide the growth and development of the city.

The Committee released a Vision for Greater Hobart in August 2021, and followed this up with the 30-Year Greater Hobart Plan in August 2022 which provides the strategic direction for the development of the city over the next 30 years.

As always, it's been tricky to narrow down the field, and this year, we've decided to award 4 third-place accolades. Thank you to everyone who entered the 2022 OHH photo competition - we were thrilled with the amazing photos everyone shared from the weekend.

A reminder that the OHH photo competition is still open, and we'd love to see Open House Hobart through your eyes. There are some great prizes to be won, including the new Tasmania Living book, two pairs of Blundstone boots and a Waverley woollen throw.

To enter, simply share your photos of your favourite buildings, tours and events from this year’s Open House Hobart program on Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #oh_hobart. Full terms and conditions can be found on our website (link in bio).

The competition commences (AEDT) 12/11/2022 at 10am and ends on (AEDT) 30/11/2022 at 11.59pm. Photos can be shared on Instagram or Facebook anytime during this period, but photos must be taken during the Open House Hobart weekend (12-13 November 2022) and feature a building or event from this year’s program.

The iconic Butterfly House was designed by Esmond

The iconic Butterfly House was designed by Esmond Dorney I had forgotten the playful colourful ceilings and the owners great styling and personal touches. They have commissioned Penny Malone a Tasmanian Textile Artist to design curtains that respond to the era and personality of the Architecture.

A home can evolve over time with a vision or even

A home can evolve over time with a vision or even perhaps a blurry plan that allows you to bring your own personality to a place. This 1860’s home was derelict when Maddy and Nic Goodwolf bought it. Bruce Goodsir the architect helped them shape the initial home with great integrity and commitment to the memory of what had come before. Over time the family have grown and adapted to include artist studios, yoga studios and as the children grew artist residencies. The people who have moved through here are evident, you can feel their energy. Thankyou Nic for opening your home and sharing with us the life and garden that has grown here knitting together many worlds, many histories.

Oh Hobart! Oh Barry! This weekend we remember Barry McNeill and thank him for his generosity to Architecture the profession, to education and a commitment to Planning. His family were always part of his career as much of his work happened in his home. His home was his studio. Thank-you Pat, Mary and Jane McNeill for generously opening your family home and reminiscing with us today. Pat his wife told me once with a gentle smile that Barry’s last words were, “please don’t let them forget about the City Plan’.
